Cloone shock Marys to take B Shield (Wednesday, July 02, 2008)
An injury time Damian O Donnell goal saw Cloone claim a deserved victory in the Shield B Final last Sunday in Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada, although nine minutes into the game, that seemed highly unlikely. St. Marys season to date has been some way off the highs of last year although it was still imagined that they would have been too strong for Cloone when the sides met on Sunday last. Prior to the game, four dedicated Leitrim GAA men, George O Toole, Jack McNally, Tommy Tiernan and Tommy O Riordan were remebered with a minutes silence while flags were flown at half mast. The manner in which St Marys began the game seemed to indicate that Cloone would be in for a difficult afternoon as the opening eight minutes of the game were spent almost entirely in the Cloone half. However, those opening minutes proved to be the highlight for St Marys as they began to make basic errors all over the field, lose their composure and lapse into the form that has seen them make such a disappointing start to this years league. With Jimmy Guckian back from injury and taking his place in midfield, Marys began brightly scoring two points in the opening two minutes. With less than a minute played, Guckian was fouled and Niall Comerton scored the ensuing free. Guckian made a huge impression in the opening stages and his importance to St. Marys was further illustrated when he scored the second point of the game. Cloone found the going tough in the opening exchanges and while Declan Brennan did score a fine point to half the deficit, it was beginning to look ominous for the division two side. Comerton scored an easy free before his third point of the game after some fine passing involving Jimmy Guckian, Ian McGreevey and Ray Mulvey. With a lead of three points and playing much better than their opponents, Marys carved their way through the Cloone defence after seven minutes but were denied a certain goal when Mulveys well hit strike came back off the crossbar. That goal could have gone a long way towards seeing St. Marys on their way to victory, and although Liam McTiernan scored a point from a 45 to open up four point lead, Cloone soon after began to fight their way back into the game. While Cloone deserve great credit for the manner in which they fought back, it must be said that St Marys form for the remainder of the game was well below what they produced in the opening exchanges. Where they had seemed dominant in every position, they were now beginning to look sloppy as Cloone fought back with purpose. Two pointed frees from Damian O Donnell, who was beginning to prove himself to be a real handful as he won both frees, narrowed the deficit to two points. While Marys were beginning to fade from the game, they were still capable of producing a moment of class as was illustrated when they went the length of the pitch with some very good passes and excellent movement to score a fine point. Vinny McDermott began the move taking the ball out of defence before passing to Jimmy Guckian. He found Comerton who in turn picked out Clement Cunniffe who fisted the ball over the bar to restore StMarys three point lead 11 minutes before the break. In the final ten minutes of the half, Cloone continued to force their way into the contest and an excellent point from Alan Canning gave further indication that the game, which seemed as good ADVERTISEMENTas won in the opening ten minutes, now had a long way to run. The last minute of the half saw a Comerton free cancelled out by another fine point from ODonnell. At the interval there were several questions being asked around Pairc Sean. Would St Marys be able to rediscover the form they showed in the opening minutes? And how big a factor would the wind be? In the first half Cloone had the advantage of the strong wind, but trailing at the break by (0-7 to 0-5) it would have been fair to say that St. Marys would still have been expected by most to emerge victorious. Despite playing into the wind, it was Cloone who made the better start to the second half and their early pressure was rewarded when ODonnells free reduced the deficit to a solitary point. Marys second half performance was a shadow of what they had produced in the early stages of the game but, nevertheless, Cloone were left thanking goalkeeper Dermot McCrann when he made two fine saves in the space of a minute. The second half was more a war of attrition than a classic and that seemed to suit Cloone who were up for the battle. ODonnell & Comerton exchanged points, with Comertons effort proving to be the Carrick clubs only score of the half. Marys were guilty of kicking bad wides while at the other end ODonnell burst through the Marys defence to score a fine point to give Cloone the lead for the first time in the game and this would be a lead that they would not relinquish. The final 15 minutes of the game saw St Marys run out of ideas while Cloone with Alan Canning and Gavin Reynolds coming to the fore in midfield threatened to add to their lead. The closing stages of the game saw both sides push for the score that would result in either victory for Cloone or a St. Marys score that would have forced extra-time. The final score of the game came with virtually the last piece of action as Damian ODonnell reacted quickest to a Mark Beirne 45 to fist the ball to the St Marys net to ensure victory for Cloone. As was pointed out at the presentation of the Shield, it may not be the most prestigious of competitions within the county, but it is nevertheless a fine achievement for Cloone and will do their preparations for the intermediate championship no harm at all. IFC Round 1. (Friday, July 27, 2007)
GORTLETTERAGH 0-9 Cloone 1-3 The scoreline here would suggest a close and hard fought GWP Intermediate Championship encounter but the reality was that Gortletteragh should have been out of sight if they had converted half their chances against Cloone in Pairc Sean MacDiarmada last Sunday. Gortletteragh went into the game as favourites and, for the first ten minutes, they lived up to that billing as they cut through at will and racked up four points. But after that, the rot set in as they wasted too many chances and ran into cul-de-sacs as a floundering Cloone fought to get back into the game. A penalty, against the run of play but rightly awarded, suddenly put Cloone within a point and set up the remainder of the contest. But despite two points in the next four minutes, Gortletteragh never put the game beyond doubt, leading to a few nervy moments in the closing minutes. Gortletteragh were the better team but couldn't make it tell on the scoreline, something that will worry them for the rest of the campaign while they may also have to plan without former All Star Seamus Quinn who was brought to hospital after suffering a serious neck injury in the first half. Gortletteragh were well served by Kevin McGrath, Patrick Kane, Padraig McGarry and Darren Duignan. Cloone won't be particularly pleased with their display – too often promising positions were wasted by poor passing and bad choices. They had a few stand out displays from Seamus Maguire, Brian Mulvey and Gavin Reynolds but they will feel that they never really performed at all last Sunday. Gortletteragh got off to a flying start – Darren Duignan scored a great point in the first minute. By the time he had his second nine minutes later, Cathal Quinn (free) and Cathal McCrann (fifty) had also got on the score sheet while Cloone keeper made a good save to deny Patrick Kane a goal. But then the wides started and Gortletteragh were rocked when, 18 minutes in, a high Donal Brennan pass found his brother Niall. He charged on through but was impeded and a penalty awarded, expertly dispatched low to the net by Seamus Maguire. That score undid all Gortletteragh's good work but they responded in the right fashion when Padraig McGarry finished a length of the field move with a point and Seamus Quinn fired over a bomb from the wing, after a Cloone attack broke down. The game was held up for some time after the injury to Seamus Quinn and on the restart, Cloone did better but had wides before Ronan Mulvey fired over a good point from 45 yards, to leave the halftime score at 0-6 to 1-1 in favour of Gortletteragh. Gortletteragh again started the second half best with two Patrick Kane points in the first ten minutes along with four wides. Dermot Kennedy traded points with Donal Brennan midway through the half. There were yellow cards for Kevin McGrath and Seamus McCaffrey before Donal Brennan hit a well taken point with five minutes to go but it was to be the last point of the game. The wides continued, as did the yellow cards with Mark Beirne, Gavin Mitchell, Cathal Quinn and Terry Kellegher being booked. There was also a red for Damien O'Donnell when he struck off the ball to bring Cloone's day to a sad end. Gortletteragh Conan Clarke, Kevin McGrath, Derek Kellegher, Charlie McDonnell, Eamon Reynolds, Terry Kellegher, Mark Mitchell, Padraig McGarry (0-1), Cathal Quinn (0-1), James Campbell, Cathal McCrann (0-1), Dermot Kennedy (0-1), Patrick Kane (0-2), Darren Duignan (0-2), Seamus Quinn (0-1). Subs: Niall Duffy for S. Quinn (31 mins), Gavin Mitchell for Campbell (51 mins), Michael Dorrigan for Kane (57 mins). Cloone Ciaran Casey, Brian Mulvey, Aidan Mulvey, Liam Reynolds, Seamus McCaffrey, Gavin Reynolds, Seamus Maguire (1-0), Alan Canning, Mark Beirne, Mark Creegan, Donal Brennan (0-2), Derek O'Donnell, Damien O'Donnell, Niall Brennan, Ronan Mulvey (0-1). Subs: Adrian Nicholl for Canning (47 mins). Referee: Tom Quigley.

League Action. (Tuesday, June 05, 2007)
We played Aughnasheelin in the Division 2 league on Saturday evening last in Aughnasheelin and once again the two teams served up an exciting game which finished all square at the finish. This is several times these two teams have drawn in the last number of years. Two goals either side of half time proved vital to us at the finish and after a tight second half a draw was a fair result. We were scheduled to play Annaduff in the junior league on Monday but unfortunately due to injuries and exam commitments we were unable to

Cloone haven't faced Gortletteragh in well over 10 years in the championship while Eslin created a shock the last time they met Cloone in the 1995 Intermediate Semi-final. This years championship is provisionally fixed to begin on the weekend of 21/22 July.

Leitrim V Offaly (Monday, February 05, 2007)
FROM the dizzy heights of floodlit Croke Park and a crowd of around 82,000 it was back to St Mary's Park, Cloone yesterday where the crowd was about 80,000 smaller for the meeting of Leitrim and Offaly in Division 2. This is a lovely, almost quaint ground set in a hollow surrounded by trees but the picturesque aspect of Cloone will not be fondly remembered by Offaly. After relegation last spring this was to be the starting point for a quick return to the top flight but it was the worst possible result for them when they lost out by 0-11 points to 0-12 to a mad-for-action home team. Leitrim manager Dessie Dolan is currently out of action through illness so selector Pat Prior stood in for him yesterday and what a job he did. The difference between the sides was simple enough - Leitrim wanted to win this game far more than their opponents. Granted the Cloone venue, where the fans can almost hear the players breathing, bestows a solid advantage on the home team but still Offaly were caught out badly. They simply were not ready for the drive and passion of the Leitrim players in the first half and should have been further than three points behind at the break. The Duignan brothers, Ciarán at full-forward and Michael at midfield, orchestrated the Leitrim performance but it was the tight marking of the Leitrim backs that set the tone for the game. Offaly have lots of talented forwards but you need more than talent to beat a sticky Leitrim backline. Throw in razor-sharp tackling from players like Barry McWeeney and Barry Prior and suddenly the expression 'talented forwards' has a hollow ring about it. But Leitrim did not shock Offaly through negative play - far from it. There were points scored by Ciarán Duignan and Michael Foley yesterday that were as good as anything we saw in Croke Park the night before. But because this was Cloone and they play for Leitrim the rave notices that Connolly, Cavanagh and Mulgrew got in Croker will pass the Leitrim lads by. Yet they and Cloone are as much part of the GAA as the stars and the glamorous stadium.

Club Meeting (Monday, January 08, 2007)
There will be a very important meeting of Cloone Ladies GAA on Saturday night February 10th in the community centre. It is vital that all players attend. Players will be notified closer to the time to remind them.

Cloone Ladies AGM (Monday, January 08, 2007)
On Saturday night last we held our AGM for 2007. Outgoing Chairperson Tara Mc Cabe read her report for the year in which she gave a run-down on events during the year both on and off the field. The highlight of the football year was undoubtedly winning the first ever Leitrim Ladies Intermediate Championship final on Saturday August 20th by beating Kiltubrid on a socreline of 4-10 to 3-5. After that game we went on t represent Leitrim in Connaught. We played Annaghdown of Galway on the 16th of September but unfortunately lost by one point on the day. We also contested two more finals playing old rivals Aughawillan in both the Senior Championship final and the Senior League Final. Unfortunately we were the losing team on both occasions. Despite losing two finals it was still a very successful year for the club and we would like to thank trainer Alan Canning for all the hard work and dedication he put in with us during the year. Without his commitment we would not be Intermediate Champions at present. 2006 was also a very successful year for Leitrim Ladies. They beat Sligo in the Connaught final by one point. They also had great success in the League just narrowly losing out to Clare in the All-Ireland final by one point in Athlone on May 7th. The highlight of the year for them had to be lining out in Croke Park in the All-Ireland Junior final against old haunts Sligo. Sligo’s greater experience of playing in Croke Park showed on the day ensuring them a 4point winning margin. Clone Ladies were well represented on the Leitrim team during the year with Sinead & Lorraine Brennan, Teresa Mylott, Aoife Kelly and Carla Creegan all playing. During Tara’s speech she also congratulated player Una Creegan on winning a British Colleges Championship with Liverpool Hope University. She sympathised with those who had deaths in the family during the year and also thanked the numerous and generous sponsors who helped us out during the year. And also to the men’s club for the use of the pitch and new lights, the lotto and for their general help and support throughout the year. Club Secretary Aisling Mitchell also gave her report on the year in which she told of all the goings-on from the underage. The minor team were the most successful and with there amalgamation with St.Josephs won the minor competition. Aisling thanked Patricia and all the girls for looking after the underage teams during the year. Outgoing Treasurer Carla Creegan also gave her review of our finances for the year. The last item on the agenda was the election officers. And the following is the new committee for 2007. President: Pat McNamara, Chairperson: TBA, Vice Chairperson: Lorraine Brennan, Secretary: Aisling Mitchell, Asst. Sec: Eileen Donohoe, Treasurer: Una McKeon, Vice Treasurer: Grainne Tiernan, PRO: Louise Heslin, Registrar: Annette Donnelly. We wish them all the best for 2007.

Congratulations (Monday, January 08, 2007)

Co. Final (Monday, October 09, 2006)
Our hosting of the Co. Final on Sunday last was a great success. Our sincere thanks to all those who helped in any way, to the many local people who were out stewarding or helping in various other ways we extend a huge gratitude. To the FAS workers who did magnificent work during the lead up to the game Leitrim Co. Council for their support and assistance and Leitrim Co. Board for their co-operation at all times. Our thanks also to the Gardai and local member Tony Byrne for their assistance on the day, to the local land owners who generously allowed their fields for parking we extend our deep gratitude. Finally in case we omitted anyone our thanks to anybody who assisted in any other way, you can all be justifiably proud of your efforts.

Co Final Arrangements. (Monday, October 02, 2006)
Sunday next is a big day for the club as we host our third Co. final. All stewards are asked to be in the park at 1pm. With two very attractive fixtures taking place a huge crowd is expected and supporters are asked to allow plenty of time to get to the grounds and your co-operation with the stewards is requested. There will be plenty of parking available and so long as people obey the steward’s instructions, traffic will be able to flow freely. We would also like to wish all participating teams the very best of luck in their respective finals.

Hard Luck to Leitrim Ladies (Monday, October 02, 2006)
Hard luck to the Leitrim Ladies team that was defeated in the All-Ireland Final on Sunday last. The girls gave a very spirited and committed performance and brought great pride to the county by reaching the final. It was a great and unique honour for the parish to have five players starting in an All-Ireland final in Croke Park and Teresa, Carla, Lorraine, Aoife and Sinead can be very proud of their achievement. Having put in huge effort and commitment since last Spring the girls are sure to be very disappointed but no doubt the experience will stand to them well and hopefully next year can go one better.

Good luck. (Monday, September 25, 2006)
Best wishes to the Leitrim ladies team who are taking on Sligo in the Ladies Junior All-Ireland final on Sunday next in Croke Park. Its a great honour for Cloone to have five players representing Leitrim in Croke Park so hopefully a large crowd will travel up to support Sinead, Lorraine, Teresa, Aoife , Carla and the rest of the team.

Ladies ChampionshipFinal Report (Friday, September 01, 2006)
Cloone 4-10 Kiltubrid 3-05
Inspired by team captain Eileen Donohue, Cloone turned back the years with a powerful display to capture the Intermediate Championship title against a brave Kiltubrid challenge in Ballinamore on Saturday evening last. While Cloone dominated the game with a solid and sometimes perfect performance, they met a very determined Kiltubrid resistance and it was only into the second half before they finally got the scores to seal the game. Both teams put in a great hour’s effort throughout the game, and must be pleased that all of the players on the field played to their full potential in the final. In the end the experience of the Cloone players was a big factor in the outcome of the game with Donohue, her sister Annette, Teresa Mylott, Carla Creegan and the three Brennan sisters, Tara McCabe and Aoife Kelly all contributing well to the Cloone effort. Kiltubrid will be disappointed with the result but can take great encouragement from the efforts of a number of players on the day including Miranda Burke, Blaithin McKiernan, Sinead Meehan, Emer Kelly, Emer Horan and in particular younger players Aine Tighe and Aoife McWeeney.
Straight from the throw in Cloone won possession and set up the first attack of the game with Aisling Brennan, Eileen Donohue and Lorraine Brennan all involved before Aoife Kelly fired over the opening score. This was quickly followed by a Donohue wide. Moments later midfielder Sinead Brennan hit in a dangerous ball that was well dealt with by Kiltubrid keeper Emer Horan but Cloone won posession again and pass from Aisling Brennan to Andrea Beirne resulted in a foul on the Cloone forward. However the opportunity was wasted as Tara McCabe hit the free wide. Five minutes into the game a sideline ball to Cloone resulted in Kiltubrid possession but in overcarying the ball in an attempt clear, Tara McCabe made no mistake from the resulting free. Kiltubrid eventually worked the ball up field and a testing ball into the square was only half cleared by the defence and Miranda Burke hit the loose ball over off the ground to open Kiltubrids account after nine minutes. Moments later Cloone were awarded a 45 and a good ball in from Sinead Brennan fell nicely to sister Aisling who hit a similar shot over the bar to reestablish the Cloone lead. Two Kiltubrid attacks were well won back by Carla Creegan at full back to keep the Cloone goal intact. Another attack was set up by Donohue as Lorraine Brennan hit a wide. As the half progressed Cloone dominated the midfield battle and had another opportunity of a score as a great ball in from Sinead Brennan was won by Tara McCabe who fed Donohue and she set up Sinead again for a fine point. Kiltubrid were under serious pressure to win their own kickout but Emer Kelly became more prominent as they began to make some inroads into the Cloone defence. However Annette Donnelly and Teresa Mylott cut out a number of Kiltubrid attacks before Emer Kelly was fouled but the free was sent wide. Another sweeping move from Cloone upfield was started by Grainne Tiernan and found the impressive Aisling Brennan in space, however Tara McCabe missed a great opportunity to extend the Cloone lead. Moments later Miranda Burke found Aine Tighe in the corner and as she attacked was fouled but hit over the free to leave just two points between the teams. This free seemed to inspire Kiltubrid into action but Regina Bohan missed a chance to narrow the gap with her effort. A poor clearance from keeper Aisling Mitchell fell to Sandra Early who was fouled but this time Tighes free went narrowly wide. With ten minutes remaining in the half Tighe had another free to reduce the gap to the minimum and this time she obliged as Kiltubrid enjoyed their best period of the game. However Cloone responded immediately when Aisling Brennan sent in a great ball to Aoife Kelly who was fouled and McCabe pointed the free. Kiltubrid again won possession with Aoife McWeeney’s pass to Aine Tighe who was supported by a great run from Siobhan Kelly who blasted over the bar when a goal was on to leave the half time score five points to four in Cloone’s favour.
Within twenty seconds of the resumption, Cloone were two points up as Sinead Brennan won the throw in and found Aisling Brennan who was supported again by Donohue and her perfect return pass was pointed by Aisling. Three minutes later Cloone were rocked by a Kiltubrid goal as Emer Kelly took advantage of a loose ball after a clash between two players and her intended pass across the square deceived keeper Aisling Mitchell and ended in the far corner of the net. Cloone responded immediately with a Tara McCabe free after a foul on Lorraine Brennan to level matters. As they had threatened all through the game, Cloone suddenly found another level and went into the lead again with a great point from McCabe after solid defending from Noreen Colreavy. A minute later they doubled that lead when Sinead Brennan found Aoife Kelly in space and she fired over a point. The turning point came two minutes later after Andrea Beirne did well to keep in play a long range free from Lorraine Brennan and her pass set up Tara McCabe for Cloone’s first goal of the evening. A great win by Donohue in the middle of the field found Aisling Brennan and when her initial shot hit the crossbar, Aoife Kelly was on hand to blast to the net as Cloone moved into an eight point lead. Kiltubrid were now on the back foot but responded immediately with an attack from Regina Bohan and Aoife McWeeney who found Siobhan Kelly but she was unlucky to see her goal chance go narrowly wide. Three minutes later Cloone went eleven points up as Aoife Kelly was again at the end of a sweeping Cloone move and she finished with and unstoppable effort to the back of the net. Kiltubrid tried to make an impression up front and twice Aine Tighe tried her best to find the net but a commanding back line snuffed out her efforts. They did have a great chance of a goal midway through the half but Aoife McWeeney’s effort hit the crossbar and Emer Kelly hit the rebound wide. However two minutes later they were rewarded as a Regina Bohan free found Tighe on the edge of the square and she scored a well placed goal. Aoife Kelly and Andrea Beirne hit wides for Cloone and a Sinead Brennan effort was well dealt with by Emer Horan. Another Kiltubrid effort was held by Mitchell but she over carried in an attempt to clear and Tighe pointed the 13m free. With five minutes remaining Eileen Donohue was rewarded with a point for her efforts following a good attack by Aoife Kelly. Kelly herself had two more opportunity’s to add to her tally but one went narrowly wide while Emer Horan saved well at her near post. As the game moved into injury time there Kelly hit her third goal of the game for Cloone following another great Cloone move up the field to confirm their superiority on the day, however there was time for a last attack for Kiltubrid and sub Lisa McWeeney finished well to the net for a consolation goal. The presentation the new Mary O’Brien Kelly Memorial cup for this first Intermediate Championship title was made by County Board Chairperson Geraldine Creamer to the winning captain Eileen Donohoe.

Carrigallen go through. (Tuesday, August 29, 2006)
CARRIGALLEN 1-10, CLOONE 0-9
Carrigallen qualified for the quarter-finals of the GWP Intermediate Championship after they overcame a tough Cloone challenge last Saturday evening in Ballinamore.
After their draw with Drumreilly in the group stages, victory over Cloone ensures Carrigallen's place in the quarter-finals and they must await the result of the Cloone and Drumreilly game to see if they top the group.
But it was not a straight forward victory for Carrigallen as Cloone made a better start and it took a goal seven minutes from halftime to put the eventual winners in control.
Indeed, the second half saw Cloone out-score Carrigallen by four points to three but they couldn't get close enough to cause a shock.
County player Donal Brennan opened the scoring on eight minutes before Ciaran Flynn equalised for Carrigallen. Cloone then went two points clear when a good solo run from Derek O'Donnell yielded a point while brother Damien pointed on 13 minutes.
Andrew McManus and Damien O'Donnell swapped points before Carrigallen took control of the game in the last eight minutes of the half. Sub Benny O'Rourke pointed a 22nd minute free.
Andrew McManus then scored the game's only goal, following-up after an initial save from Cloone keeper Ciaran Casey. McManus and Ciaran Harte added further points before Donal Brennan pulled back a point from a 29th minute free.
However, Carrigallen finished the half strongly with two O'Rourke frees, leaving them 1-7 to 0-5 in front at the break.
Cloone set about reducing that five point gap with a Damien O'Donnell point four minutes into the second half but Carrigallen were not in charitable mood and points from J.P. McManus and Charles McGuinness followed either side of a Donal Brennan free.
Brennan added another free on 12 minutes while Dermot Tiernan reduced the gap slightly with a 17th minute point. But the last score of the game fell to O'Rourke as Carrigallen booked their place in the quarter-finals.
Carrigallen: Enda Lyons, Ciaran Harte (0-1), Noel Nash, Dermot Mulligan, Hugh Magee, David Flynn, Karl Ward, Cliff Richardson, Noel Doonan, Eamon O'Malley, J.P. McManus (0-1), Charles McGuinness (0-1), Gary Reynolds, Ciaran Flynn (0-1), Andrew McManus (1-2). Subs: Benny O'rourke (0-4) for Richardson (20 mins) Gary Reilly for Eamon O'Malley (48 mins), Terence Reynolds for Harte (50 mins), Rory Harte for Flynn (53 mins).

Share of the spoils in Cloone (Monday, May 29, 2006)
Cloone and Glenfarne-Kilty enjoyed a share of the spoils in this division two encounter played in ideal conditions in Cloone on Saturday evening. After six minutes of play a close encounter was always on the cards as the sides were level at two points each. Cloone then went two points in front with scores from Donal Brennan and Damien O'Donnell. however the North Leitrim side pegged back Cloone's lead through the excellent free taking of Michael Maguire. This was to be the story of the first half as frees were exchanged for the remainder and Cloone went in at the break leading on a scoreline of nine points to eight after a well taken point from play from Seamus Maguire. The second half closely was a contested thirty minutes with Brennan and Maguire exchanging numerous scores to leave the sides tied at thirteen points each with ten minutes remaining. Mike-Joe Brennan RIP (Tuesday, October 18, 2005)
It was with deep sadness that we learned last weekend of the passing of club president Mike-Joe Brennan. Mike Joe has been a loyal and dedicated servant of the club all his life as a player, team selector and official. Mike-Joe served as treasurer of the club for many years before going on to become club president, a position he held for the past twenty-five years. Mike-Joe was a well-recognised face at Cloone games for many years and for generations of Cloone players will be remembered for been the first man there with the bag of jerseys on his back. Together with his wife Nancy they assumed the job of looking after jerseys for all Cloone teams for many years. Mike Joe also played a key role in the procurement and development of our club grounds in the late 70's. Mike-Joe was much liked character in the club and his wit and good humour endeared him to all. The many roles and tasks he took within the club down through the years has meant his memory and place in the history of our club will be forever assured. Mike Joe was very generous with his time and skills to the club and during a different era around Cloone Mike-Joe's Morris Minor served as team bus and committee meeting room! The large crowd who turned out in Cloone for his removal and funeral at the weekend also evidenced Mike-Joe's popularity within the community. To his wife Nancy, sons Damien, Kieran, Louie, Pacelli and daughter Mary, son in law, daughters in law, grandchildren, brother, sisters and large circle of friends we extend our deepest sympathy. Ar dheis De go raibh a hAnam Dilis.

Michael Creegan RIP (Monday, July 25, 2005)
For the second time in nine months our club was devastated with the tragic and saddening news of the death of one of our senior players. It was with shock and disbelief on Tuesday evening last as we prepared for training that we learned of the passing of our club mate and friend Michael Creegan. Michael's passing shocked and saddened the entire Cloone community and further a field. Michael was a member of our senior side and had made his senior championship debut just two weeks ago. A talented and courageous footballer that had a keen eye for goal, Michael swung that left foot of his with great confidence. He had been a member of one of our most successful underage teams in recent years and had won several medals from U-12 right the way up through underage ranks. Michael was also one the real characters of the club and his unique way made him a very popular and well-liked member of the team. You'd always know when he was on his way to training from sound of the car coming in the distance and when he'd arrive in the dressing room it was always with a smile as he'd surely have something humorous to say to some of the other lads. Michael's potential as a footballer was only starting to be realised and he would no doubt have gone on to be a key player on our senior side. To Michael's father Tommy, mother Pat, sisters Alma, Rona, Carla and Katie and his brothers Mark and Clifford we extend our deepest and heartfelt sympathies. Michael was a good natured and obliging character who will long be remembered in Cloone for his good-humoured ways and there's no doubt his skill and determination on the field will be sorely missed in the years to come. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dhilis.
